MORE SCALES

Also in the key of F, here are some more scales for you to learn, practice, and use to add some extra flavour to your music.

F MAJOR PENTATONIC

This 5 note scale is the Major scale minus the 4th and seventh degrees.

F MINOR PENTATONIC

This 5 note scale is the Natural Minor (or Aeolian) minus its 2nd and 6th degrees. (It is also the 5th mode of the Major Pentatonic).

F MINOR BLUES

Although this scale is minor (the 3rd note is flattened in comparison to the Major scale), it works well when used over the three major chords in the 12 bar blues. (It is actually just the Minor Pentatonic with an extra b5).

F CHROMATIC

Uses every note on the fretboard. Playing this from root to root will help with learning shift patterns across the whole neck.

F WHOLE TONE

Every interval is a whole tone (2 notes). Can be used over an augmented 7th chord.

F DIMINISHED HW

This scale is often used to play over diminished 7th chords in jazz. Note that the intervals are a half tone followed by a whole tone all the way through......

.....and a whole tone followed by a half tone all the way through.

F DIMINISHED WH

F HARMONIC MAJOR

The major scale with no 6th degree.

F HARMONIC MINOR

This is the natural minor scale with a raised 7th.
